Our Shell Pieces come in two forms, Ocean Tumbled, and Chip, both with a natural organic feel. A perfect addition to terrazzo aggregates.
Finish
Ocean Tumbled
Like the small pieces of shell washed up on beaches, Luméa Ocean Tumbled Shell Pieces are formed by a similar ocean tumbling process. The edges are smoothed and lime on the back of the abalone shell is naturally removed, in a process involving only water, shells and movement, the vibrant blue nacre is revealed.
Chip
A re purposed material, Luméa New Zealand Abalone Shell Chip utilises off-cuts from jewellery and button manufacturing, breaking this material down into small, rough edged, pieces that can be used in terrazzo aggregate mixes. The natural luminescent particles bring a subtle sparkle and flashes of colour to your surfaces.
Uses
Shell pieces are a versatile product best used indoors. When used outdoors, the shell may dry out from the sun and the colour might fade over time unless protected. Scatter them over aggregate floors or bench tops to add splashes of iridescent colour, create tactile interior furnishings, or polish and craft into baroque style jewellery.
For customers who value the natural sparkle of shell, this minimally processed option looks great scattered across polished concrete floors, and added to bench top and tile aggregate mixes. It can be used indoors without a coating, or outdoors and in swimming pools if a coating is applied to help seal water and provide protection from the suns UV rays.
