Trochus Shells
Luméa Trochus shells are prized for their creamy white pearlescent colouring. Growing naturally on isolated atoll reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific oceans, this sea snail has a triangular or conical spiraling shape and a camouflaged exterior allowing it to blend into the bright coral it grows along side.
Our Trochus whole shells are mainly used for buttons, beads and home decor.
Available in natural and polished forms.
Finish
Polished
The exterior is polished, removing the protective outer layer of the Luméa Trochus Whole Shells, revealing the pale white nacre and retaining it’s spiralling cone shape.
Natural
Unpolished exterior and minimally-cleaned interior. The Natural finish for Luméa Trochus Whole Shells preserves the natural protective layer on the outside to protect the precious nacre lying underneath, on its journey around the world.
Uses
For customers who value the natural shape of this shell, this minimally processed option can be left as it is, added to unique design creations or alternatively, processed further into pieces. When polished, the colours glisten and change in shifting light.
Most commonly used for pearl buttons due to its thickness and durability. The natural layer on the back shows the shell in its harvested state. This can be easily removed to reveal the lustrous nacre underneath.
